How to Monetize Your YouTube Videos

How to Monetize YouTube Videos Tutorial

What do I Need?

In todays tutorial I’m going to share with you how to start making money with your Travel Videos. This is an easy tutorial but it does require you to have a YouTube Account and a Google Adsense Account.

How to Make Money with YouTube Videos

The first thing you need to start making money with your travel videos is to be invited from YouTube. You’ll know right away when you get it as the email which says the following:

Dear Your YouTube UserName,
We Noticed that one of your videos is becoming popular on YouTube. We love seeing creators be successful, and we’d like to invite you to monetize your video. First, opt your account into monetization from your Account Settings, and then opt your eligble videos into monetization by visiting your Video Manager.
Have fun and good luck,
The YouTube Team

Monetize as Many Videos as You Want

As you can see from the screenshot from my YouTube Account, I have chosen to monetize all my videos that are eligible – which is most of them.

If you choose not to monetize or change your mind at a later time you can change the monetization settings whenever your want.

Monetized and Under Review YouTube Videos

Most of My Videos are Approved for Monetization

How Long Does it Take to get My Video Approved?

This depends for each video and I’m sure is on a case by case basis. One of my videos has been under review for almost a day now. Even though there is no music or copyrighted material being used.

It just depends.

However, in saying that. Most of my videos were approved only hours after I received the email about monetizing my YouTube videos. So, it really shouldn’t take that long for your videos either – unless they fall in the gray area somewhere.

How Many Videos Views do I need to be Invited?

I really don’t know for sure, but I think it a fair guess is around 2,500 to 3,000 video views and you should receive the invitation from YouTube inviting you to start monetizing your videos.

I am also pretty certain that if you are a fairly active member and are uploading videos frequently or on a regular basis, this might help in getting your YouTube invitation sooner.

You should be doing this anyway as the more videos you have on YouTube, the more chances you have of monetizing them and the more money you will make!

Get a Google Adsense Account

One thing that you do need to start making money with your YouTube videos is a Google Adsense Account. If you don’t have one already, I recommend heading over there right now and getting gone.

Signing up for Google AdSense is quick and painless and shouldn’t take you more then ten or twenty minutes at the most.

Regardless, you’re going to need one for your monetized YouTube videos.

Don’t Add Copyrighted Music!

This is a big “No, no!” if you want to start making money with your Travel Videos or any other videos that you might have laying around then don’t add any music that you don’t have the rights to.

It’s as simple as that.

Obviously you are still free to edit a video with copyrighted material, such as a song then your video won’t stand a chance of making any money online with it.

Your video may or may not be approved though and/or it might not be shown in other countries.

I enjoy editing my videos with music just as much as the next guy, so I am guilty of this myself as you can see watching some of my videos.

But, I’m desperate to get some food on the table and my next flight booked so I can do without the music.

If you really want to add some musical flare to your videos then try to find some Royalty Free Music and add that to your edit. If you are a talented and/or a budding musician, then why not produce or record your own track and use that?

Learn How to Compress Your Videos to they Look Good

Once you finished your new Oscar Winning edit, it’s time to compress the video and upload it to YouTube. This can be a be overwhelming and a bit foreign to you at first, but once you’ve done it a few times – it’s not hard at all.

The best advice here is to use the highest resolution possible for your videos. Even if you have a video that looks great after you compressed it, if the resolution isn’t high enough, YouTube will Destroy It!

I’ve covered how to do this in my tutorial Exporting the Best Adobe Premiere CS5 Render Settings for YouTube Videos.

Try saying that 10 times fast!
